Re: justaddmud's kja build (code named MK5)
you are of course, both correct
and here is the update
we start with a 9" angle grinder and the removal of some of my front clip
now, here is where it got interesting, as i have shackle reversal, the mounts were taken, we did have the idea or welding the bumper to the shackle reversal, so to start with, we sleeved the end of the chassis with tubes, this meant we could do stuff up real tight, can also see the bumper mouts have been cut off, no going back now
we then cut bent and welded the 6mm tray, offered it up, to fit around the PAS box (quite a bit bigger than the standard)
then, my friend, worked out how we can keep it all seperate, so he cut to top off the shackle reversal, (as it is about 8mm too big anyway, and then made these mounts to sit inbetween the chassis and the reversal
we also made a brace down from the bumper edge and another securing mount on the crossmember (this thing isn't going anywhere now)
so with these all done, we started making it look like a bumper, so we fitted the tray, and got the 10 peices of 3mm steel and started to make a bumper
so we tack the tops on to judge the gap, with everything cut square, the bumper doesn't quite follow the lines of the bumper so we fettled it and tacked the tops in place
then we fitted the other bits, (didnt get piccys of this as it happened quite quick) and got left with this
a bit of grinding, red oxide and black paint later, we have a bumper
you could probably see there are holes, in the bumper for the indicators, due to their size, i wont be using the standard units, so, i did what ARB do with their bumpers (well some) and made holes for MK1 Golf indicators, small yet legal, all i have to do is fudge a side light in somewhere and we are good to go, oh and get a stick on plate too
next up, wireing, winch cut off switch and new winch wire, then, i need to get stuck somewhere to try it all out
thanks for looking

Thanks guys, I am real happy with it, looks the part
the winch has cleaned up well, to be fair it wasnt too bad when i got it from you, all works a treat.
bit of an update on the 80's Japanese 1.6 vehicle front, I bought another one, however the former are about all the SJ and the new one have in common
poor old SJ might be neglected for a bit, so bear with me on the updates

Bumper looks great . I would just drill a hole in the original headlamp and fit one of these, cheap & easy.

Re: justaddmud's kja build (code named MK5)
Tom, yes you are correct, a mk1A was too cheap to pass up
Darrell, nice find, thanks, i might get those as a fall back on my LED running light idea i have
Dan, my mate has given me a bill for the Steel (not labour to weld it all together clean and paint) of £75, he said the most expensive bits were the 20mm solid steel hoops think they were £10 each
