Hi all, just got a '91 413 after a bit of a hunt. It's a straight road car and virtually rust free (so far!) but there will be some mechanicals to be done. I think I'll need help finding bits ;)
I'm in Sevenoaks, Kent so any other owners fairly local it would be handy to know - just to get up to speed on how to hunt things down. Car came from Isle of Wight and the drive back was leisurely but sound.
First impressions - gearbox a bit noisy, cold start iffy, steering play.
Plan for me is to keep it stock/road, and steadily fix all the worn bits til it is all-round sound and clean but not over shiny.

I had a really early lhd import back in '85 (a 410) and loved it, so I'm back for more.

... oh, and a set of tyres may be required. Am I really going to have to pay £300 for them??

Back soon!, Douglas

Welcome to the club.

Noisy gearboxes are pretty common as is a bit of steering play. Cold start could be a number of things, is it the standard carb? Or possibly EFi on a 91?

As for tyres, you can find budget tyres for about £60 a corner. Most recommended tyres in standard size are about the £80-£90 mark.

It wont be an injection one from 91 unless someone has put an injection system in it... will be the carb and probably the auto choke (everyone has problems with the autochoke)

Theres always a bit of steering play in them, but I would start by checking the steering column rag joint as they seem to get a bit too floppy with age! Then move down to all the steering ball joints

Gearbox noise could be gotten rid of if you drop the gear oil and replace with fresh?

Im not exactly local down near Brighton but I'm closer than some other haha

If you're looking to get a set of good used tyres

I found that searching ebay for vehicle's that used
The similar sizes to sjs bought up some good prices

If I remember rightly

Land rover freelander
Subaru forrester
Kia sedona
Obviously the vitara and jimny.

Many thanks all - it's the carb version and it looks like the original but not had time to get close to it yet. It certainly has autochoke problems - if the carb isn't choking on cold start does anyone have any techniques for starting?? It fires almost immediately but will not catch so I guess far too lean maybe? Tried half-throttle but it's not happy, finally fires and clears then slight fuel cloud out the back (not oil).
Re gearbox I will try an oil change asap. Basically I'll work through this list when time is available.

Thanks again for the help, will let you know how it all goes (I bet there's a thread here somewhere about converting to EFi??]

back soon, Douglas

Hi, I'm in Middlesex so not that far away if you need a hand with anything. A mate fixed my autochoke problem...I'll have to ask and see what he did!
