Hey guys, really pleased to be on here. I have recently purchased my first 1989 sj413 and absolutely love it. Ive wanted one for ages and finally got my hands on one! Im looking Into jacking it up and was wondering if anyone has a few different tips on how to do it. Just different techniques and prices. I will also want to get larger wheels and tyres at some point aswell but I have lots of time so no rush! I look forward to speaking with u guys. Cheers

Hi and welcome to the club!
There are quite a few options for jacking it up... firstly though stay well clear of lift shackles!
The will ruin your approach and departure angle and knacker your springs
Add-a-leaf is something else that is usually avoided, pretty much makes your suspension solid!!!
... and will also knacker the springs
Your best bet on the lift front is to get some new or 2nd hand lift springs. I would probably aim to get some 2" lift springs, as this will give you clearance for some 29.5-30" tyres
If you want to go up a bit further you can always add some small lift shackles (0.5" lift MAX) to get up to 2.5" lift later on
Personally I found that 235x80r15 tyres, 2" lift and a set of wheel spacers has been a really good combination!

235/75r15s will fit a standard height sj with the smallest amount of trimming to the bumper mounts, personally I don't think there's any need to run more than 2" lift in the suspension.
This is one of my samurai's on 235s before the trimming, completely stock suspension.
Will get some pics of the trimming for you at the weekend

Personally I think 2-2.5" is about right as long as you've got spacers or offset wheels too, when mine was standard height I kept getting stuck on the breakover angle...
bashing the bottom of my transfer box into the floor!
