Morning all
I have recently bought a 2007 Jimny JLX Plus/Mode I get about 32-40 mpg from a tank but it seem very thirsty is this the norm for these. I brim this thing every time I fill but gauge drops like a stone... any thoughts or experiences or recommendations re this. I can't believe these engines are so unecconomical.

That is about right, a proper 4x4 is never going to be as economical as a soft-roader.

Welcome to the forum, grantmelton1!
The problems with economy aren't really down to the engines, the same engine in an Ignis or Swift is pretty economical. About the same as your Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta etc. The real problem is that you've bought a real 4x4 - transfer case (an extra gearbox, basically) and solid, live axles front and rear. All that extra mechanical stuff reduces the vehicle's mpg's. And then there's the wind resistance from the big, tall body of a 4x4.
You're never going to get a 4x4 being as economical as the equivalent supermini, but the equivalent supermini is never going to be capable offroad, and never going to be as much fun.
