Hi all Just signed up intending to build a Jimny with Vitara 1.6 with a turbo or supercharger install . I'm sure I'm not the first has anyone done a similar build. Any guidance would be appreciated

Welcome! What kind of Jimny is it? Hardtop or soft top? What year?

If you're building an earlier soft top, the Vitara 1.6 should fit ok, but if you're building a hard top, most of them came with the M series engine. You might be better off looking for a swift or ignis engine, as they're going to be an easier swap.

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like it could be apretty good build. My suggestion to you would be get rid of the standard Tbox if you want to put that much power through it.

What forest are you from?

Goblin Combe North Somerset but currently in exile in Welsh Land. I'm intending a Hardtop, and on the lookout for a Swift 1.3 turbo as source for easy fit parts but might end up doing a bitsa fitup possibly Astra or Calibra parts. At the moment it's all in the planning and research stage. first step is the right base vehicle:
Tin top 03/04 base WANTED preferably mot'ed but not necessarily pretty

There's nothing to stop you retrofitting a G series into a hardtop, and I think some of the early hardtops might have come with G series engines. But most hard tops come with M series engines.

You could always get an M series hardtop, get a G series gearbox from a soft top, and mate that to the G16 engine. Or just retrofit a G16 with a vitara gearbox.

I'm not certain that the weedy little clutch in a standard jimny is going to cope with the power you're talking about, they struggle a bit with G16's, a G16 Turbo is probably going to mullah the clutch in short order.

Welcome to SCUK.

Sounds like you have a plan coming together.

I would look out for an early tintop that will have a G series engine in it already.

There's plenty of info out there on the Swift forums regarding turbocharging the G series engine.
