I did once see a turbo unit for a sj but i cant remember if it was for the 410 or 413, only ever seen one tho and it was on ebay!
Or why not put a 1.6 vitara engine in, would probably be easier to do than the turbo, that and i have a write up going on the DIY page soon.

for offroad use i wouldn't really advise a turbo'd petrol motor for one simple reason! Turbo lag! if your crawling along in some deep mud relying on the low down torque and then need to give a bit of the right foot to get you through, once that turbo kicks in your just going to start spinning the wheels at a stupid rate and dig yourself a hole, just like a lot of people find when they fit the swift 1300gti lump, it'll be a bit too revy and not have enough torque. why not have a think about supercharging it? then you'll have all the extra power in the low revs too! (might be a bit more expensive though!!!!

interesting thought
you are right about the acceleration with the turbo. now of course i am going to ask you the question. how
to supercharge it.
have a nice day

in TOR a few issues ago there where 2 guys who set the highest altitude world record for a 4x4 in a 1.6 baleno engined sammi which was running an eaton supercharger off a merc! mind you thats not really a 1294cc engine is it but have a look at this.

it should be pretty straight foward if ya can get hold of the manifold and turbo of an old mini or metro era turbo or even toyota starlet turbo as there isnt much difference in the manifolds also you ll need to fit an oil feed from your oil sensor in the side of your engine and an oil return into your sump then just fit a manual boost controller should be able to run upto 14psi of boost easily on the engine.
