im not sure what i did but went to adjust the fan belt on my 1995 sammy sport put the spanner on the adusting bolt and heard a crackkle and a lot of smoke when i looked it had cooked the fusible link up at the battery? why did this happen?

sounds like you shorted,, from the bolt to the live feed on the altanator... if you look theres a heavy wire going to the altanator,, thats the currant feed back to the battery, some vehicals it goes via the starter..
