Bad weekend
Bad weekend
For those that I don't have on Facebook or Instagram, the Jimny's engine let go after picking my fiancé up, the head gasket has been acting suspicious for a while, water disappearing, heaters turning cold, purchased a new radiator and fitted, worked fine and then driving home I smelt coolant, lost all power, pulled over and it stalled, looked behind and saw the road filled with smoke! Smelt really badly - so far that I got the Mrs out the car and grabbed the fire extinguisher.
So the question is, who fancies helping me disassemble the engine, advising what I should do at the same time and then coming down a second time (once the head is back) to reassemble.
Unfortunately the car is not drivable, I will cover petrol and time! Located in Shepton Mallet.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Bad weekend
Im under the impression this is fairly common with the g13bb lump
which i assume yours has being a soft top.
I should think youll be fine doing the job on your own. Just
label and store everything as you strip it down.
First major head change i done was on an 1.8 zafira that lunched its cambelt. What an awkward as job that is. On the jimny everythings where it should be and nicely accessible. Just label everything and box everything in an organised manor, take away tubs and small boxes are handy for this. Take photos of everything.
Or just shove some steel seal or k seal in it and hope for the best

Re: Bad weekend
I don't think you will get stuck. There really isn't much to one of these engines.

Re: Bad weekend
So, some success, got the head off thanks to a local friend/mechanic and also Dan and Scott!
Smokey!
Sorry sight!
Cylinder 4 looking a little wet
Starting to disassemble
It's off!!
Gasket looking a little sorry for itself, makes me wonder if the last owner really got this changed in April 15?

Re: Bad weekend
That gasket clearly has another 100,000 miles in it. Put it back.
How's it going?

Re: Bad weekend
Does it need skimming? Or do you want an extra little bit of compression?

Re: Bad weekend
It makes you wonder if they had it skimmed last time the head gasket was done? Great work so far stick too it and it will be done in no time ,
Re: Bad weekend
After seeing the damage to the gasket, my mate said it's not worth getting it pressure tested, but i am going to get it skimmed.
Now I've taken it out,i'm pretty confident to do it again!
Yeah, they used a crappy gasket, that they drilled holes into, everything was bolted down the sealant!
