Got a recall notice from Suzuki UK

Had a letter in post about a recall on the Grand Vitara. Seems they want to change a link on the manual gearbox as a few have failed. Mine is a 2.4 Petrol - manual. Will be done at their cost. You never know the selector might end up being less of stirring a pudding to find a gear and more positive. Hey can't be any worse.

The gear linkage upgrade is worldwide
The pic is what I've put together with my bit of research.
I believe wear on the plastic bush (24) is responsible for the sloppy gearstick.
Make sure the buggers put a new one in on reassembly

Hey top googling skills @Darrel. I took a look yesterday but didn't see anything online. Did notice there was something about a drive belt tensioner spring recall in 2011 - going to find out if previous owners had that done. Assume dealer / Suzuki have that on record somewhere.

I have to say I'm a little reluctant to let anyone else get their spanners anywhere near my cars. I'm going to take a few photos underneath as there are no leaks at all - and if it's a gearbox out job to do the recall work I want it back without leaks.
Anyone else this paranoid about their cars?

I have been looking at 2 Suzuki models too replace my old Vitara that died about 5 weeks back and at the Moment a new Jimny is the front runner and also the possibility of a SZ5 as a close contender mainly because of the additional space in the back of it.But the latest Jimny with traction control and adding a set of AT boots really does appeal for all my needs,i dont do off road as such as i all need is something that can take me out for the occasional hunting/fishing and shooting and dont have to worry about getting off the field again.
Regarding being paranoid about cars my BMW X5 is treated like the Chelsea tractor it is,its without doubt the best motor i have ever driven and that will never ever see any dirt in its life,i dont mind admitting its just a posers car,the ride can sometimes be a bit touchy due too the massive wheels and tyres on the thing

I like the SZ5 because it has the centre diff lock and low ratio (well the 5 door does not sure about he 3door). These are the last of the ladder chassis type Vitaras. The current model is a standard design.
Ride is better than a Jimny in my opinion. I guess the X5 / Jimny combo is better though.

If your gear stick is really sloppy it could be either of the plastic bushes on the gear lever. Unfortunately these only come as a gear lever complete
. Just a heads up in case they ring you saying you need this or that.

@Darrell. Thanks for all your info posted here. The redesigned link has now been fitted by the main dealer. The bush no 24 was not part of the recall but needed to be removed to fit the new link - had the bush replaced - cost £3.75 for the bush. Result is a less sloppy gear leaver.
Given this was the first time I've had a car in a garage for the best part of ten years (do my own maintenance) I was relieved how the experience panned out.
The courtesy car was a hoot - Celeriac or something. Ha ha, least it got me about.
