Propane Space Heater

I’ve been working in the garage a bit over the winter and struggled to heat it.

It’s a new garage but they still have zero insulation, i’ll address this issue at a later date.

Due to the work and cost of insulating and draft proofing it, probs use that as a summer job.

Tried various electric heaters with not much joy, the heat seems to dissipate very quickly, unless you are within a couple of feet of the heater.

Always fancied a space heater and recently my dad bought one and it gives off a phenomenal amount of heat but his sounds like a 747 is circling above the garage.

Did a bit of looking aroung and found some second hand ones locally on ebay made by arcotherm, contacted the seller and he said “not much louder than a fan going round, but come and see them working”

Long story short, i bought one and you run it for 30mins and its shorts and t-shirt in the garage.

Noise wise its a lot quieter than the Clarke my Dad has, I think this make is a more industrial brand

Sounds a lot louder on the video than it is.

Should make it easier to sort your rear out

Looks neat. Have a massive one at the barn but haven't used it for years. It cost a lot to run as it was oversized.
And the barns shonkyness let the heat out so fast.

Make sure you have enough air coming in tho! And tools can go rusty rather quickly near these heaters so give them a light coating of something oily.

Are the emissions from those things safe? As in, do they emit carbon monoxide or anything like that?

You will not have to worry about that, it is a pretty clean fuel.

My issue is now the garage. It’s nowhere near as “shonky” as your barn but a typical garage. Zero insulation and gaps around the doors and eves.

Been having a think and may try some ebay special insulating foil stuff and see how it goes.

Celotex / kingspan would be ideal but has a price tag to match. The wool stuff would work but shouldn’t be fitted to the rafters against the roof as it creates a damp trap from what i have read and i don’t really want to run it across the joists as i use them as storage and think it will also make the garage feel a lot smaller.

Another project for another day.

I did finally finish converting it from a linear circuit with one 2 gang socket to a ring main with seven 2 gang sockets so have a lot more power points around the entire room.

Overall i had a productive weekend.
