33" tyres on an sj

How bad are 33s on a samurai? Its going to have a 1.6 8v with a 410 transfer box. Too much strain on the cv's? Will be used offroad, not abused but well used.
My other 2 sj's have 31s and dont seem to have any problems but this one has a virtual lift and i think it wants more than 31s.
Whats people opinions

Fine. Maybe go for 33/10.50/15 instead of 12.50. There is not as much tyre choice but from what i have heard the reduced tyre area suits the lighter SJ.

Sadly it doesn’t get out much but gets abuse when it does. Never snapped any shafts or CVs when it was on standard axles and 2” lift springs.

Handles fine, rides fine. Turning circle does suffer though. Need a good chunk of bulkhead cutting out / axle moving forward a touch. May need to limit the steering lock to prevent them fouling on the springs.

Lowered my tbox to 4.1 and 4.3 diffs makes the gearing about right.

I have upgraded the entire suspension and drive line since. But as said, on standard axles i had no issues on or off road with it.

Did over 1000miles in a week last year driving to Swansea via Dunstable. Greenlaned all the way up through Wales then home.

I've been running 33s on mine for years and drive it daily. drive with your head and not a right foot of lead and stock axles hold up fine.

33x12.50 does eat rear wheel bearings though.

You can solve the turning circle issue by running the correct offset (with 33x10.50) or by moving the front spring mounts into the 410 spacing with samurai axles. I have full steering lock.

Thanks for the replies, both your sjs are how im wanting to go with somewhat.
Im assuming your high box are 1.5? Did it still need 4.3 diffs?

I have replied in your gearing thread with quite a bit of info.

I'm currently running twin transfer boxes (1.580 high, 2.511 low and 4.57 low-low) with stock 3.73 diffs but I'm going to drop the diffs to 3.909 or 4.3 very soon. I usually recommend 4.3 with a rock lobster to people on 33s, you'll see why in the other thread.
