LJ270

Post by ScottieJ » Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:54 pm

So this is going to be a long and slow build (like most of my builds :hahaha: ) on the side of other projects while I save up for parts. It’s a bit of a dream build for me and something I’ve always wanted to do.

So I got offered an old never finished ORA build with a massive chunk of the parts needed (Thanks Matt :smokin: ) and quite a bit of the chassis work already done but I’m going to take it in my own direction. It’s built on an SJ chassis.

Rough spec/plan so far
Sj chassis
LJ80 looks
H27 V6, 4 speed auto, vit tcase to landcruiser 70 series transfer box (might change to hilux tbox yet?)
14” air shocks
37” treps
3 link with panhard front and rear
Custom axle housings with Toyota internals, 6 shooter knuckles, trunnion bearing eliminator kit and full hydro steering

Hopefully as soon as my broken finger is healed I can get it built up to a roller and start working out a few more things with it.

My aim is to keep it as simple and light as possible.
Inspiration coming from an Australian build.

Hoping to pick up some diffs later this month, that means I can get the axles built up to the point this is a roller.

Just had
5.9m of 38mm, 35.6m of 44.45mm ROPT510 tube and 7.5m of 75x50 box section delivered so there might actually be a little bit of progress soon. As mentioned though this will be a very slow build 😂

Looking forward to seeing some progress on this Scottie. Might just be the inspiration others need to build something crazy not me though, I don't need anything like this. Damn it :hmm:

If these tyres I bought live up to the reviews then they might be an alternative to the 37" treps. At £154 a tyre they are practically half price...... https://tirestreets.co.uk/products/acce ... 2559281237
Offers come and go you just have to keep checking

Need to focus on some other projects and rather than this thing sit in the workshop in the way I’m going to part it out.

Down the line when I’ve got things a bit more up together I’m still going to build an LJ buggy. Just go about it differently. I would like it to fit into Stock/Mod class of the Dirt series and this build wouldn’t.

Prices of the stuff I’m selling below. Or I’ll do a deal on it all.

Tg hydro steering ram, clamps and joints. £600
Ora axle housings for Toyota diff/shafts £1000
H27 V6, 03-72le auto into lj70 transfer box £1500
Chassis, suspension links and johny joints/rose joints £1000
SJ body, tube front and cage B hoop also available with the chassis for £250 more, or I’ll throw it in if everything above is bought together.
