My nice new winch bumper :D

Well,

I've finally got me a bumper! It's a winch bumper, and here it is!

Got it delivered yesterday, so I was like, RIGHT let's put it on! :D

First off had to get the old bullbar mounts off, which was a complete mission!
I ended up undoing them a bit, then getting bored and getting the bolt croppers out :P
4x Snip and it's off!
Next comes the reinforcing brackets that go around the end of the chassis legs... They went on pretty easy with a bit of hammer!
After this, it's time of offer up the bumper... the bumper has forked legs that slot inside the chassis rails and go around the front bit of chassis tube, and then go further back into the rails. Again with a bit of fiddling they went in nicely :D

Then it was a case of drill the bolt holes out in the chassis ends, bolt it all up... big 12mm bolts going through the chassis, the bracket and the bumper "legs"
...and then U bolts that hold the winch tray onto the centre parts of the front chassis tube! So that's 6 points of contact... at least!

I've gotta say, it's made the front of the truck extremely rigid!!!
Brakes work a lot better as well with the extra weight!!!

I think you would actually have to rip the whole front of the car off before the bumper came out!!! :D

It seems like it's gonna be a lot stronger than bumpers that attach only onto the chassis ends!!!!

Obviously Scott it was made many many moons ago, it just looks like it's new ;)

Therefore, no problems? ;)

...and fawk owf!!!

Got a positive review from DSD :)

You should see how it fits! it's ridiculous, obviously a lot of time has gone into the design?

  Do you know who it was made by?
looks a bit like a granite bashers one??

I think you would need to mod that to fit an 8274.

Yeah apparently you need to mod the grille to fit the 8274 in it...
tbh I'm leaning towards a cheapo winch...

I seem to remember someone saying they are a re-badged version of a different winch?
I'm not going be doing winch challenges or anything, I just want to be able to try and get through whatever I feel like and be able to get myself out again!!!

Any opinions?

Oh, and it's a guy named Russy196 from the muddyzook forum that made it for me...

Nooooooooooo your better off keeping your eye out for a second hand better quality winch.

My mate has one of winchmax ones and after a few dunks they start getting really unreliable. he's only had it around a year and has needed to strip it and clean it loads of times as it often stops working! all those cheapo ones are a waste of money IMO!

OK... how about one of these?

Any ideas on these?

The thing is, it's a gift from my mum... she's getting some inheritance money and is giving me and my brother £500 each for Christmas...
Very nice :)

However, it does mean that I sort of have to buy stuff new, rather than second hand!
My budget is £250, cos I want to contribute another £50 and get a laptop as well... my laptop is now too old to be usable!

Champion are supposed to be ok, however I had one fail when it was trying to pull me out of a hole once

I'm afraid it's one of those 'you get what you pay for' with winches. I would personally save up the extra 100 or so bucks and get a goodwinch or something  it will be cheaper and make more sence in the long run!
