Its Just so S...L....O....W!!!!! Help please
hey guys,
I bought a 413 sammie with a webber carb on it, it feels very slow and doesnt seem to have any torque, like at all, it was like it when i bought it but now im thinking its not normal, i can not get more than 50mph anywhere and going up a light hill i may even need 3rd gear!!
Any advise what i can try to get some more power from it?
Thanks
Mike

I would also have a look at your rotor arm and distributor cap, they can be just as important as plugs and leads
Otherwise, the carb might not be tuned properly if its been fitted by some random person!

First thing I'd do is make sure it's sparking properly, then I'd git the carb a service and tune up.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Check the cam timing. Also check the the distributor drive gear if its worn then you will be losing timing which would explain your lack of power..

Re: Its Just so S...L....O....W!!!!! Help please
Ive just bought a SJ414 and am too having similar experiences. Its also got a Weber fitted, and on the journey home it'd struggle to hit 60mph, (It does have larger tyres mind).
Ive since reset the carb idle mixture and speed following the official Weber fitting instructions found on here, and it seems to start alot better than before, the plugs were a little black and it was definately running rich.
Im planning on doing the plugs/leads/dizzy cap and rotor arm soon.
As I've not owned one before its hard to tell how quickly it should pull through the rev range and what is classed as "normal" (it may be because Im used to a Clio 172 and its fast revving engine

well just remember guys, stock the 1.3 had 64ish bhp + larger tyres than your average car so it's never going to have sports car performance and acceleration

Thats not a phrase I've ever heard mentioned before when talking about SJ'schris71920 wrote:how quickly it should pull through the rev range
They are VERY slow compared to more modern stuff

Also a fwd car has the diff in the gearbox and that pretty much directly drives the wheels, there's a transferbox in between the gearbox and diffs to steal a bit more power from the engine in an SJ.
