Be advised - follow at your own risk - correct me if im wrong

hi, ive been asked how to change a water pump on the 1.6 vit engine so ive done a quick guide ive got the engine in the air at the moment so i took a few pics.

hopefully its right but feel free to correct me, its off the top of my head.

start off by removing fan cover and fan off the water pump

slacken off the alternator and power steering pump and remove belts.
drain coolent

remove pulleys off the water pump
remove bottom pulley off the crank. (small bolts not the big one in the middle)
remove covers
remove cam belt, (not sure if you could keep in on the teeth) possibly marking where it goes?
then remove pulley and water pump and replace.

and put back together in reverse order, and refill the coolant system

bearing in mind the timing will need to be done if you removed the belt but if you carefull you shouldnt be a million miles away.

Oh, thought this didnt post, the damn computer froze lol

im just on with swaping my water pump but im having difficultly on taking off the timing belt cover do i have to take the big nut off the crank? if so how do i undo it with out the engine turning over (its a sj413) but im guessing it should be just the same on a vitara?

Stopping the engine turning is easy. Put your handbrake on put the gearbox in its highest gear and then try again.

No you shouldnt need to remove the large bolt

ive had it in gear and hand brake on but its still turning the engine.? how do i get the timing belt cove off then robbie i thought the large bolt had to come off too the cover dosent seem to want to come offany ideas? would appreciate any help

Should be these bolts out bottom pulley off, fan off and the it should pull off

Engine is still turning? The clutch must be slipping then. Either your clutch isn't too clever or that bolt is absurdly tight.

You don't need it off for the water pump though.

You only need to remove the 5 10mm bolts and take the pulley off not that big bolt.

there is only 4 10mm bolts that hold the pully on ive taken them out but it still wont come off if i try hitting the pully will it loosen it off? without damaging it (it is a sj413) but it shouldnt be any diffrent to a vitara should it
