welders?

Iv been offered a cheap Sealey mighty mig100 xt mk2 turbo, are they any good or useless?

Never used one but if it's gassless stay well clear they are crap.
I think the one I got is a sealey but couldn't tell u what make, it uses gas and hasn't let me down for all the yrs I've had it.

It is a gas one, but looking at them the price new isnt a lot, so thought it might be a bit poor?

well it's only 100a... it will have its uses...
might be OK for SJ (paper-thin) body work... but not for anything more substantial
apparently the max thickness steel you can butt-weld with it is about 2mm

Hah! 2mm? That's what it said for my 90a welder. I had to taper the edges of the metal when I was welding a new wheel arch outside forward quarter onto the offside rear of Mum's Discovery before I could get it to take properly. That said I'm not a very good welder.

lol, well iv borrowed one, but was offered the one above for £40 so thats why i was considering it
If i spent £200 id be in trouble! (house purchase going on at mo)

£40 is a bargain! even though its only a 100 amp it will still do the job no problem as someone has already said the metal on the sj is very thin so a powerful welder would only blow holes if your not to clever at welding.

at £40 i would get it, then you can practice until you can get quite good, you will always sell it for that money.
i bought a clarke 100a from my sons mate, for £50 had it a year and played with it, kept the new wire reel and sold it last month for £50 when i was given a broken 130amp one.
(although i had to spend £70+ on it to make it work, which it now does brilliantly)
i was then offered a brand new 130amp one for £200, never been out of the box and was bought for £400 last year, very tempted.
