Touching base.
Hello. I bought my SJ413 in August of this year, having got the bug in Turkey in recent years where we have hired several SJs to travel many a long and spectacular kilometre from our coastal bases (Celcuk and Alanya) to drive to places like Cappadoccia and back (the car-hire men thought we were mad - which is probably true). I was impressed with these little jeeps because of their combination of practicality, reliability and economy, and because of their superficial resemblance to a lovely (and hideously uneconomical!) ex-army Austin Champ I used to drive in the 1960s. The SJ413 I have bought is a 1993 model and came with a hard-top fitted which I have replaced with a Monsoon hood. It definitely brings back Champ memories in its olive-drab livery, to which I have added the letters SJ413 in a military-style font to the rear door and the bonnet sides. If I could have worked out how to attach a photo here I would have popped a few on.
Looking forward to a sunny 2013.

Re: Touching base.
I first got a feel for an SJ in Turkey too. We wanted to know what one was like before I bought one for my first car so the summer before we bought it we hired one and drove from Izmir to Kusadasi (about 350 miles each way if I remember correctly, and it included going over a mountain) and I was very impressed. Bouncy ride and noisy but more comfortable than a Corsa B (the one that replaced the Vauxhall Nova) and a hell of a lot of fun. In the space of a week my Stepdad and I did about 1000 miles in that Samurai.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Touching base - follow-up photos.
Thanks for the replies and advice. Here's a few photos of my 'militarian' SJ. I've just had a shufti at them and it looks like you'll need a cinema-screen to view them! I'm still blundering around trying to sort out how things work on here.

Brilliant, great looking mostly original SJ, the only thing that is non standard is the paint & the front bumper! Keep up the good work & remember to keep posting photos because we like them here!
