Hi all,

My names rob and im from west yorkshire,

I currently own a 2.0 zetec ford cougar, ive owned classic cars aswell as a few moderns ( standard and modified) im 21.

Me and my girlfriend both like classic cars but know the amount of work and money they command in regards of welding and bodywork not to mention mechanical repairs they need. Using a classic everyday would not be too realistic when we both need the car to get places i.e work and im the only one driving at the moment.

So came across a suzuki vitara 4u2 model in blue and silver yesterday and having had a quick look around it, we came up with an idea of going off roading instead. As it would still be a reliable everyday car too.
We dont want something too thirsty or big ( as it would also be on L plates for when my girlfriend is learning to drive).

Can anyone recomend any other 4x4s perhaps? With similar mpg and for around the 1k pound mark?.
What modifications need to be done for novice type off roading in a vitara?

Are there plenty of places to go off roading ?
Do any of the sites allow people without a license to go mud plugging ? I.e girlfriend extra experience driving.

Welcome Id say a vitara is ya best option if your going to use it as everyday or if comfort isnt your first box to tick of then a sj would be ideal.

Some off road pay and play sites let you drive without a driving license however best to check with the site owner/marshals first to avoid disappointment.

Edit: I learnt the basics ie clutch control etc in my SJ when i was 12 or so!

Welcome. If you just want some recreational offroading a vitara on a decent set of tyres will be cheap, capable enough, and comfortable.

Probably the best option to learn to drive in too.

are the usual anus off roaders for around that price, but none have the support/mods in comparison to a suzuki or availability of spares!

If your looking for somewhere to off road in west yorkshire, look up parkwood 4x4 in tong, I go there nearly every month and it's awesome, something for everyone, the only thing is though is that you need a driving license to go around, but you might be able to sneak a passenger on.

A Vit is good. I prefer the SJ for off roading, but wouldn't want an SJ for my daily
