Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
Merry fucking xmas.
Got 2 miles down the road and the throttle cable snapped. Bollocks. Called Alcoholics Anonymous but they were no help so tried the AA instead.
90 minutes of freezing my arse off and some bloke rocks up. Takes him 40 minutes to fix it then it broke as I tried to drive away....so he bodged it, and followed me about 6 miles to my mum's, throttle wide open, gear changes were...'interesting'.
So I'm in Piglet 3 at the moment. Will get a mountain bike cable and fix it tomorrow.

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
Local mountain bike cable shop is shut till tomorrow so did a little more to P5. Carpets in rear seat in too. All the little parts that are worn will be unbolted and renovated. Hoping this is done by the 31st as there is a classic car show near me new years day. Might be a good place to sell it...

If I could afford P5, I'd have your arm of for 'er!

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
I'd love her to go to a SCUK member matey. But she's gonna be pricy! (well, kinda expensive). I can always store her for you if you want to buy her later next year...
Did a few more bits, P6 has a mountain bike throttle cable, but correctly mounted unlike the old one which was chafing at the pedal end...no wonder it went 'ping'. And speaker covers are on. Took me a while to figure out how to fit them...diagram that came with them was useless. And there were two bits I couldn't find in the box...but I found them under my seat!
New wheel nuts arrived for P5 so they are going on along with the centre caps, and my rubber carpet idea carries on lol...

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
I can't ask you to keep her for me, as much as I would love that, I could never get rid of my SJ (she's a part of me now) and there's no way I can have 2 Zuks!
Appreciate the offer though, I really really do!

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
No probs...pity she can't go to a member here...I know then that she'd be taken care of.
Still, I'll get the beastie to the car show with a for sale sign but no price on it. If anyone asks how much (and they will) I'll say make me an offer, I might get more than I want for her!

More bits...the CB has found a home in P6, and I finished the transmission tunnel cover on P5, only to notice an inspection plate further down...that's off and I'll do that tomorrow. The power plug has been sanded down and repainted and the rev counter has been installed properly, but it got too dark to take any pics!

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
More work done...almost finished P5. Painted the transmission cover...under the sound deadening there was this sticker? Wonder what it said? Oh well...went to put the centre cover on the wheel and was surprised by how manky everything was, so it's all been cleaned and painted...by torch...again!
And here is the front winch. Yes I know it's small but my reasoning is this...we already have a lot of weight on the front and putting a heavy winch just makes things worse, more likely to nose dive in the mud and the handling is compromised. Putting a big 'un on the rear makes perfect sense to me. Balance the car out a bit and if I drive into something and get stuck I can winch myself back out!

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
Nice! If that winch is man enough to handle the LJ, let me know - it looks light enough that one could find a home on the front of my SJ.
I'd only use it in real emergencies though, I wouldn't use it every time I went offroading.

Re: the no dosh LJ revamp
Yeah a small winch could be OK... people always say you need a massive winch, but for lots of circumstances you dont need one that large.
When my SJ was mostly standard, I got stuck in a ditch and a friend pulled me out with a cheapy manual trailer winch (1500lb i think). Unfortunately you have to spin the wheels while winching in.
The problem I think is that the more mods you have on the SJ, tyres, lift, whatever.... the more stuck you are when you get stuck...
My trailer winch died a death in the end when we tried to winch a shogun that was beached on a mount with all 4 wheels off the ground... the ratchet lock snapped off and it was game over haha
