Ahh.. I thought you might say an air compressor........... not got one of those so may have to hope that the piston is fine and if not look for a reconditioned caliper.

When I did mine the compressed air didn't budge the piston.

You can push the piston out with the foot brake, but be prepared for lots of brake fluid coming out too.

I'd try just pushing the piston back in first, fit new pads, and check it out in a weeks time. You might be lucky and the pads are sticking because the piston is so far out. Once pushed back in and more length of the cylinder to straighten it up it may work fine.

Just look at the part already exposed - if it's not visibly pitted, marked, corroded while it's out that far then you will be ok to just push it back in. Any pitting you can't see with the piston out this far won't matter - I only got mine out because they were such a mess I knew I had a problem, and it was obvious that I needed new pistons.

If you see something like that, then you have problems. Generally if your boots/seals are ok, then your pistons probably will be too - the boots are there to keep moisture out so they don't rust.

Mine had big holes and tears, so I stripped, painted and reconditioned my calipers with all new pistons, seals, boots, pads, braided brake lines and discs.

They're basically as good as they came out of the factory, and all in cost under £100 (not including braided lines/new discs).

Thats brilliant... thank you all for your advice..!! Im going to give it a push back in and see how I go.. pop a new set of pads and a new disc on and see how I go..

tbh it does just sound like the sliders are seized, if you can push the piston in reasonably easily with some pig grips/clamp etc. I wouldn't worry about those. There will be a bit of resistance, that's normal. Just make sure you push it in square, it will soon wedge if it isn't.

In the last 10 or so years I've only had two callipers the the piston has seized, it's nearly always the sliders.

Thanks... before I found the bolts holder the carrier were rounded I managed to get the sliders out and clean them up... they were horrid!! so when I come to put new pads and disc on (and set about getting those darn rounded bolts out) at least Ill have nice clean greased slider bolts. Thanks ever so much for everyones help....!!

I'd get a seal kit. They cost under a tenner (my last kit was 7 quid a side) and come with boots to protect your sliders. Some silicone grease (which often comes with the kit) and you won't find them seizing up again in a hurry.

Do you guys recommend anywhere for pads and discs?? I usually use euro car parts but am open to suggestions.

I get mine from brakes international or bigg red.

I find bigg red overpriced unless you use their ebay store, though.
