Losing diff oil: Have no clue what I'm doing HELP

Post by Echobeach » Sat Jun 06, 2015 1:08 pm

Hi,
Made a complete tit of myself posting earlier this week asking for a diff housing when I have found out now I need a rear axle housing. Don't really want to pull the "I'm just a girlie" card but I am struggling guys. My Suzuki Samuari from 1993 is now leaking diff oil quite badly. The garage has filled five holes (!) with liquid metal but it is still spraying oil when I drive. My garage is very trustworthy but not a Suzuki or 4x4 specialist and is struggling to get the axle. I think I have found one in Yorkshire thanks to a facebook post but I'm in Cornwall (£50 excl shipping). Do any of you know where I could find a good axle closer to home or is this just wishful thinking on my part? Any help or advice you could give would be gratefully received. I thought there was a diff cover like on a Landy. I'm struggling to figure out how the diff is put together on the Suzuki even with my Haynes manual.
I have had my Samuari since new and do not want to give up on it. It is my only method of transport and I have already invested quite a bit of cash the last six months - new fuel tank, the carburettor stripped and cleaned (thanks to gunk from the old rusted fuel tank), new brakes (they seized), new distributor cap, fuel pump.... everytime I leave the garage something else goes wrong but I think with fixing the axle/diff problem we will have turned a corner. The irony is the engine is now running better than it ever has!
Thank you for reading this.

I think there are a few people that break SJs down your way.

If the axle case is leaking through pourous holes it must be pretty rotten and probably well worth replacing.

£50 sounds like a fair price if its a complete axle.

It's worth checking which style
Of rear axle you have also.

It's most likely a Spanish built sami being a 93.
So the handbrake cables will go into
The rear drums separately. If it's a Japanese axle
There will be additional brackets for a single piece
Handbrake.

Do you know if yours is Spanish or jap built?
