Re: My latest common sense failure
It goes in on the 3rd of July.
Body removed, chassis legs all repaired and welded up.
Driver and passenger doors and steps repaired.
Body modified and shortened and remounted properly, not just welded to the chassis like the previous owner had.

Yeah, he's a local fabriactor in Teesside. Seen some of his work done on some bigger commercial vehicles and my Dad has used him for a few bits and pieces. Seem like a spot on kind of chap. No one i know has had any complaints about his work.andyrew wrote:Be a good truck once sorted tho.

He's also recommended a Mercedes van specialist behind his unit to do any mechaical stuff I can't be bothered with. Once he has welded it up they are collecting it for MOT and general health check.

Running a week behind on this. Dropped it off today for it's major works. Should have it back in solid condition in about 2-3weeks.

Re: My latest common sense failure
Several £100s later and i have it back with a solid chassis and body and a years MOT!
One advisory on the handbrake cable, sort that on its next services.
New to do list
Replace all seats, sorted full set of VW T5 seats, nothing flash just the basic. Ideal for my use.
Ordered some more marker lights, interior lights and a Bluetooth stereo. Again, nothing flashy all ebay specials.
Cleaned up the contacts for the door switches that operate the interior lights, up they are garbage but do work so i know all the existing wiring is good to fit my new lights to.
I think it is missing an expansion tank, never runs hot but always needs water. Had a bit of investigation today and where the hole for expansion isnat the rad cap a pipe comes off and disappears into the engine bay. Poured water in and it leaks out somewhere underneath.
Temp SJ expansion tank fitted. See how it goes.

Re: My latest common sense failure
Shiny new wings. Current wings are rusty and rotten.
Spent the weekend painting them. Not perfect, primed and painted, some sags and bits in the paint work. Concerned, not in the slightest, gonna be a tidier than the existing.

Re: My latest common sense failure
Ordered some etch primer and white gloss. 6 tins of each. Litre of Vactan.
Grill needs a damn good clean and paint as does the bonnet.
