weld test today so wish me luck

Post by parrotveasey81 » Tue Nov 23, 2010 7:29 pm

at every 2 years we have a weld test and this year they thought it would be a good idea to get us all to the same standard so i had to do the british bs4872 weld test and the american ansi weld test.
that means 2 butt welds and 2 fillet welds on 6mm plate with a stop/start on each.
on the fillet welds we just weld 1 side with the stop/start but on the butt weld we weld both sides with a stop/start on 1 side
anyway wish me luck

All the best with the results.

But wheres all the holes u melted in it and blobs of weld and splatter?

Looks nothing like my superb welding. I think one of us may be doing something wrong.

No need to say who isn't doing it right, but im gona go lock myself in the garage and practice at the wekend.

How long till the results? And how do they actually test the weld? I usually hit it with a hammer?

Jordi

2 weeks for the results i think,im not too sure how they test them but was told that they cut them into sections then fold 1 back on its self antill it breaks, the metal needs to break not the weld, they x ray another bit to see if there are any imperfections and also some thing else that i cant remember

what does hitting it with a hammer do :?:

holes melted in it would mean its too hot(too many volts) or you are going too slow, lots of splatter means you have too many amps(wire speed too fast)or it is not clean enough, the more you weld the better you will get
