Same as everyone else says shop around. Bell direct where cheapest. When i was 18 toyota surf import was £1800. Admiral were cheapest on my T5-R think it was £750
Im 25 now insured my SJ with adrian flux all mods declared and a few years no claims comes out at £230 ish. Including competition and off road use.
If you do go with a normal insurance firm be very wary of what is and isnt covered.

My first year on the road in an un-modified samurai (i was 18 with 0 ncb) was a couple of pence under a grand, I went with a company called thamesbrook and I've never heard of them since, last time i insured my sj I used adrian flux
