G16B engine oil

I will need to service our new toy shortly (2005 Vitara GV1600 with G16B engine )
Any recommendations for engine oil please (make/spec) ?

Think its just 5W40 in the GV's but some people use 5W30, in terms of brand I personally just use whatever is cheapest. They're not super high performance so 5w40 is 5w40 wherever you go.

Thanks Tim - I was thinking 5w40 would be fine but always nice to get first hand experience.

how many miles has it got? I would probibly go a bit thicker with 10w40 if it's over 100k

That is low.... stick to what the book says.

They do like good oil like Castrol magnetec etc but just comma oil from your local motor factors is also fine.
