Knuckle oil seal bolts

Post by timwilks13 » Mon Jun 23, 2025 10:02 am

Anyone has replaced the knuckle felt/oil seal bolts with normal bolts? The originals have this little shoulder:

Now there is obviously a reason for this, but when I was watching the Low Range Offroad walkthrough of the knuckle rebuild they just stuck so normal flanged bolts in there.

Yes I can reuse some of the old bolts, but a few of them are bent as they may have been the stops for the wheel turning limiter, and replacement bolts are either a. hard to get hold of here in Poland and b. very expensive.

TLDR: Is there really any problems just sticking normal bolts in place of these fancy shoulder ones?

Normal bolts will squash the wiper seals and reduce the effectiveness of the seal imo.

I’ll throw a load in the box of bits I’m putting together for you. I’ve got hundreds of them

So what you're saying is that its fine :hahaha:

Its only the two I need to replace that are bent so if you can that would be great, just a couple will be good, can use normals on the bent two for now and will replace later cheers scottie 8-)
