Green Lanes in Northants, Oxon and Bucks

Post by 270buck » Mon Apr 18, 2011 3:27 pm

Hi,

I have been down the one and only green lane in my area at the weekend. It is only about 2 miles long.

There is another one that is due to open in May, it closes between November to May inclusive. So not too long till that reopens.

In the meantime, does anyone know of any others not too far from Brackley, Northants that I could get to.

Cheers

Buck

Hi Buck,

I find that Bing Maps (as much as I hate bing, and microsoft) is actually quite good for finding green lanes!!!
Check out this link, it should take you to Brackley.

http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=52.035 ... ORM=LMLTCC" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Greenlanes look like this: +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

On there just at a glance, I can see a few already!
There is a short one just to the west of Brackley, south of Farthinghoe... it's actually marked as "Green Lane"

There's another going North out of Aynho... towards Kings Sutton. (south west of brackley)

There's one in the middle of Sulgrave, Helmdon and Greatworth (north north west of brackley)

North of Helmdon, there is another byway inbetween Morton Pinkney, Adstone, Wood End, and Weston... that looks like a long one!

...and if you look to the east of Silverstone, there are a couple that run through Bucknell Wood and Hazelborough wood, towards Wappenham.

Hope this helps your quest! :D

North out of Aynho... towards Kings Sutton. (south west of brackley) Thats the one I have been down. Quite short and not much going on.

west of Brackley, south of Farthinghoe This is the one that opens in May?

to the east of Silverstone, there are a couple that run through Bucknell Wood and Hazelborough wood, towards Wappenham. That actually has a sign that says no motor vehicles

On my paper OS map the byways are marked in green +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

On the bing maps they seem to be red or pink?

I will take a look at the others.

Cheers

Buck

Ahhhh yeah... if the routes are coming up as pink, zoom in another level.

The map with the pink tracks marked on it is the Landranger map I think... and the one with the green tracks on it is the explorer map?

Bing maps does both depending on how far zoomed in you are

... and also does the sign say no motor vehicles? Or "Unsuitable for motor vehicles"

Unsuitable doesn't necessarily mean you can't drive down it...

There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
