Hello - new (old) SJ410

Post by dougsj410 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 2:55 pm

Hi All,

Just come over from Difflock after being pointed at your helpful guides!

Just got a new (old) sj410 in emerald green with 21k and one owner from new! He retired from driving and now it's mine.

Needs some parts and some work as has only been used to trundle down to the river and back to fish from for the last 27 years.

Both rear and passenger seats have been removed as the old chap used to sleep while fishing! I am having real difficuly finding some replacements from an sj410! - Somebody out there must have some old seats for sale! ANy ideas??? - i need at least a passenger seat for the MOT! I am in cornwall but will pay postage costs...

Cheers all.

Doug

Hi Doug,

I can't help you seat wise at the minute... but I know someone who might be able to. I'm seeing him later so will ask if he has any spares.
I assume it's a cloth seat... Can you put a pic up of the seats themselves?

... and welcome to the forum :)

:welcome2: to :suzuki:clubuk matey

That is a very nice looking 410 makes me wish that I didn't sell my van back :bawling:

If Twiss has no luck with the seats i'll ask a friend who might have some in the back of his spare 410 not sure on the condition though?

That's a tidy looking tin top, looks like a real gem, I particularly like the 'commercial' wheels, really nice!

Thanks all,

Any help with the seats would be fantastic! It owould eb amazing if i could source an original 410 one rather than the 413 ones.

It is a bit of a rare beast these days.

Anyone in Cornwall by the way?

Ace its got an early dash :smokin: look after that, they are rare ;)

Right I've been doing a bit of research for you into a 5 speed conversion for you, however your sj is right on the changeover between certain components so it might not be as easy as I first thought (my 410 was an 87 and the 5speed out of a santana bolted straight in with no mods) It was in November 84 that they swapped to the later 410 gearbox, a hybrid 410/413 gearbox that has a longer tail section and shorter input shaft, with this it also changed the gearbox crossmember and gear lever position. Thinking about it I forgot that I have ran into this before when i was fitting a new engine to a friends 410 and at the time I had just swapped to a 1.6 so I said he could have my 5speed 410 gearbox, it was just a matter of changing the flywheel and modifying the gearbox mount and possibly the intermediate propshaft but we didn't have time so he just kept the original 4speed in the end.

Perhaps if you could crawl underneath and take a few pics I could tell you if you have thef earlier or later gearbox?

Or you could just do the easy and cheap option of fitting a 413 transferbox to raise the gearing slightly.

Well you don't see many around nowadays

I'm not sure what year they swapped to the newer dash 84/85

According to howmanyleft.co.uk there's 9 84 sj410s on the road and 7 sorn so yeah id say that's pretty rare ;)
