The engine swap has begun!
Well I've started putting the 16v engine in.
Started by removing lots of wires and pipes, then rad and fan, then alternator, the starter motor, then exhaust and finally gearbox.
The gearbox is sitting on it's dowel at the minute, but its quite firmly wedged on there.
Scott's coming down this way tomorrow so i will remove the gearbox in the morning

Have fun. I bet its bloody freezing even in a garage. Im not looking forward to getting outsude but atleast what I'm doing will involve a big pair of gloves and holding a nice warm grinder.

Re: The engine swap has begun!
I'm gonna swap the gearbox anyway cos mine won't go into 1st unless your stationary.
Its got the right amount of oil and the correct viscosity though...
I'm getting the hoist tomorrow morning...
Still gotta get a new brake drum stud and nut cos 1 of mine is knackered!
Got my fuel pump today...
But I'm debating whether I should fit it, then leave it until payday
(I can get an oil cooler then )
Found a vit with power steering in my local scrappy, so I might go back there and get that.
They only wanted £25 for the lot...
Oh and the webcam is here:

Re: The engine swap has begun!
Why do you need a hoist, 16v engine is so light you can throw one in on your own!
Gearbox I threw in was fine, I think I also put in the mount I made up for the back of the box. I broke several until I made up the new mount. IIRC it was a PITA to get the bolts in the mount as I made it a bit narrow.

Re: The engine swap has begun!
haha I'm not strong enough to lift the engine to waist height to get it over the front!
... and getting the old one out would be a challenge as well!
I would probably do it my self if I had a metal bar across the top of my garage but i dont unfortunately :(

Re: The engine swap has begun!
I used to take the front grill and bonnet slam out, I had made it so just the centre section could be removed. Easy then to lift the engine onto the bumper. I have also done it with a scaffold tube on the exo cage. Pivot on the front hoop and lift the engine by pulling down at the rear!
I also put the redtop in on my own without a hoist, this was somewhat more difficult and went in over the side. Involved lots of concrete blocks, ropes and swearing!

Re: The engine swap has begun!
My front bumper is... quite well secured!
Its higher up than the top of the front clip anyway and very difficult to remove!
I think I will just wait for the hoist tomorrow
That's dedication with blocks and ropes though
