Hi everyone.
I just found this site via good old google.
I have always wanted a sj, but have always been told that they are only manual gearboxed....
Anyways, is it possible to convert an sj to automatic? If so, whats needed and whats involved??
Is a vitara auto box any use??

You can get automatic SJs in Japan but thats about it!
If you are handy with spanner and a welder you could do what scott has done and put a vitara gearbox in it. They come in automatic as well as manual...
Otherwise a Jimny engine and gearbox might work?

Re: Automatic SJ??
I think, for an auto, if you wanted to use the standard engine, you'd need an SJ with a 1.3 engine and then somehow shoehorn a Vitara 3 speed auto in, with custom mounts. If you were going to do that I'd suggest putting a 1.6 Vitara engine in at the same time, as the 1.3s and 1.6s share the same engine mounts, and you lose power through torque converter in an auto so you'd probably want the extra umph.
That or go the whole hog and put in a Vauxhall Carlton x20xev engine and gearbox.

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
