I would use carplan tetrosyl if you bother to reseal it. A bit smelly but is thick and very much like the original when it's gone off. To be honest I would wire brush it - red oxide paint - chuck the carpets back in.

Re: can you replace this stuff
I found that stuff on my old 410. Used a drill with a wire brush bit and took it all off to find loads of surface rust. Tetroseal and some rust killer took care of it..

Just chip it off with a hammer and chisel, works a treat, does help if its cold though.

I agree with Scottie, one of the few jobs best done on a frosty day. When it is cold it breaks off in sheets, when warm it is like trying to get thick treacle off your foot wells.

Re: can you replace this stuff
Yep mine came off in sheets along with most of the floor pan. I found that i did get a bit of floor drumming when I had replaced it with new metal. Mine you over the noise the rest of the Zuk makes it was hardly noticable. But the better half complained so I stuck wide bitumin flashing tape to the floor seemed to work, mind you was in the dog house after using her hair dryer to warm the tape up so it would stick properly.

If you're worried about soundproofing, get headphones.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
