1997 Suzuki Vitara 5 door 2.0l diesel

Post by timw » Tue Jul 10, 2012 9:43 pm

Hi Guys, I wonder if you can help me?

I have a Suzuki 2.0l Diesel 1997 5 door totally standard. It currently has 215/65/R16's - I have been offered some 235/75/15R's a set of four with AT tyres that are brand new on them. My current tyres are road ones and I do spin and slide a bit around the farm.

The question is will the 235's fit straight onto the car without any modifications?

Tim

One things for certain, you will need the wheel rims too because they won't fit on your 16" rims! I don't know what the actual size of the 215/65r16's but the 235/75r15's are 29" across. tbh I doubt they will fit without mods

Thanks Tramp, I will have the rims as well. I thought that they might just fit straight onto the truck. What mods do you think I would need to do?

Will depend a lot on the rim offsets and the arches.

You're going from 27" to nearly 29" so its only an extra inch nearer the arches and 20mm wider so depending on the offsets you may well get away with it.

easiest way is to try them for fit and check it on full lock etc

They might fit ok, the rears may be ok and it might just need front wheels spacers.

Or you may need to cut the arches back :)

Thanks for the help.

I have been told that the wheels will fit over the calipers becasue it is not a Grand Vitara. It is the original shape.

I think that the petrol ones had 15's any way and they are basically the same car?

In the long run it might be easier to just get the size that fits properly. I only hoped that they would go on without having to do anything other than change the wheel.

They might, you'll just have to check the offset or try it, can you try them for fit before you buy them?

No I dont think I can, they are from Tyres Direct. The guy seems pretty sure they will fit as long as it isnt a Gand Vitara.

I can always send them back. Or just buy 16's but they are really expensive compaired to the 15's and you get less choice of tyre.

I cant help but wonder if your looking in the right places? 16" rims have a massive choice of tyres because all landrovers use them! Have you looked in a landrovers magazine? They usually have lots of adverts from different suppliers - and some offering deals,
