Post by suzuki-rob » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:10 pm

got a water leak, engine was fine when last used drained all water/anti freeze a few month ago when i removed engine I re fitted it in to my sj to yesterday started it up to see if it would run for maybe 10 seconds knocked it off put new anti freeze and water in and I started to get a wet foot stupid water pimp i thing so today I replaced water pump with brand new one and gasket topped back up with water again to find water dripping out as fast as I can put it in fro the seal on water pump but its got a brand new one on it what you lot think I should do make anew gasket and try again or what??

i would check all hoses to the water pump, and if still leaking , remove the water pump make a new gasket and clean both surface faces of the water pump and the part were it bolts onto, and try again, if still leaking then i would say the water pump face is not flat/hasnt been skimmed flat right

worse case comes to mind grab a tube of this

I was going to say the same thing as Tom. Take it off, clean the surfaces, bolt it back on, see how she blows and if all else fails you get gaskets in a tube.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Is it definitely the water pump leaking, not the O ring on the water rail just behind ??
New anti-freeze is a sod for finding any weak spot to leak from
