Re: Bleed nipple Size
I know this thread is old but I was looking for this same information myself.
I figured out a few answers so thought I'd post them in case anyone else needs the same info.
I have three sets of calipers, and the ones that I have use the following bleed screw sizes. I have no idea how common these are so perhaps someone like Scott will know if there're any other different sizes.
Anyway,
My Aisin SJ calipers are M10 bleed screws. I'm pretty sure it's M10 x 1.0.
My Lucas calipers (which are actually originally off an 8v Vitara) are also M10 bleed screws.
The calipers off my samurai axles (cant remember the make but think they're Girling) are M7. Again, I think it's M7 x 1.00.
As there are several different calipers available under these brands,I've attached some pictures of the specific ones I have. I hope someone finds this useful!

Re: Bleed nipple Size
When i did my SJ410 they took a 10mm spanner so im inclinded to suggest they would have been M6. M10 sounds like a massive bleed nipple!

That bottom image NylonAdmiral looks like an M6 to me tbh, my seats are held in with M10 bolts so would be suprised to see them used as a bleed nipple!

Re: Bleed nipple Size
Thanks Tim,
I know M10 sounds big but that's what the readout on the digital vernier says. I also bought M10 bleed screws which measure as M10s with the vernier and they are the perfect fit. I'm not sure what you mean by "the bottom image looks like an M6"? There is no bleed screw hole visible in that image, it's just to show what the caliper itself looks like.
It is not uncommon for bleed screws to be overly large as it makes them easier to remove from the caliper. Smaller screws are more likely to round off or break in the caliper when they get stuck, usually due to bi-metallic corrosion and always being exposed to the worst of the weather. I think M7-M10 are actually pretty common sizes for bleed screws.
The top image shows the calipers from the Samurai, and again, when dimensioned with a vernier, they are M7.
If you actually look up how many different calipers were fitted to SJ's over the duration of their manufacture, there are quite a few different options so whether or not these sizes are the same for calipers fitted to other people's SJ's I don't know. I just thought I'd share some of my findings!

Re: Bleed nipple Size
Ha ha no worries!
I know what you mean though, it certainly feels weird that the screw is so large. Even when I bought it in the shop, knowing it was the right size, it still looked like it shouldn't fit.
I struggled for a while with this because I had to get the M7s out with a blowtorch and molegrips so it was hard to properly dimension them as they ended up pretty mangled. Then the Aisin calipers came without bleed screw so I had to work out the size and pitch for them.
I was trying to find the info on here for ages so having finally figured it out I thought I'd share the info. If you have any additional info please feel free to add to this, I'd hate for someone to buy the wrong size bleed screw based on what I've written, particularly as there are quite a few different calipers available. All I know is that for the calipers pictured above, the bleed screw sizes I've mention are corrected. Goodness knows what size they are for everyone else!
