Re: Anton's build
Today:
Fits just lovely, but the caliper mount is 12mm too far back (knew that would be the case when I made it), and I've had to space out things with a 10mm wide nut and a couple of washers. I've ordered some 12mm bar (hopefully it'll actually be 12mm!) to make spacers out of.
Also need 38mm bolts, so I've ordered those, and a new set of flexi hoses from Llama 4x4. So I still have to make brake pipe clip thingies, the spacer blocks/shims/whatever you want to call 'em, but then it'll be time to fit everything and bleed the brakes!
Getting closer to a working SJ! Yippee and stuff!
Oh, and yes, before anyone points out about the tyre - yes I know. It's for the other side, sue me - I was checking clearance!

Looks like you have made real progress mate. If I was you where you have bolted the new caliper carrier on I would be tempted to slowly weld around it aswell to give it more strength. If you was to do it take time otherwise you might damage the axle casing. Other then that its looking realky good.

It's a bit over-engineered, actually - 10mm plate was probably a bit too thick!turbo-tom wrote:Looks like you have made real progress mate. Still, it's never, ever, *ever* going to bend, and I like that. I don't know that I need to weld it on though - the bolts should be enough, surely?
I really hope so!!!Ladaman wrote:Some nice bits going on there.

Re: Anton's build
Let's just hope that she passes!
Tomorrow I will sort out the rest of the rear lights. I have a new rear exhaust section coming, bolt that up, and then just finish the brakes, and I'm ready to MOT...

Re: Anton's build
12mm plate used to make the "spacer" nuggets, welded top and side, then ground back, before being spraypainted.
I think they look alright! Jobs left for the brakes:
Make "forks" to hold the brake lines in place, get the flexi installed (waiting on Dave from Llama 4x4) then bleed the brakes.
Got a new exhaust back section in the post. I'm just going to bolt that up when it comes - none of this making a new one out of bits lying around, I just don't have the time/energy/patience!
Then it's down to the rear lights being finished, and hoping that I haven't missed anything!
Getting close to finishing!
MOT next wednesday. Erk!

Re: Anton's build
I'm with you on th exhaust Anton. Its one of the very few jobs i had done "professionaly". Luckily its turned out ok both times.
The original was good but because of the way i spec'd it it could be supported properly and eventually ripped itself apart. Re-done now with the *silencer* under he car so the weight is distributed better and should last another good few years.
