Hi, just a quick question... I am looking at getting a winch but am unsure of how heavy duty one to go for!? On Ebay there are 2 I am watching... Both are by the same company and they both seem pretty cheap! The first being 7000lbs pulling power for £180 (new) and the second 12,000lbs for £225.
They do seen cheap but I don't want to use it to pull myself up mountains... More just pull myself out of some mud if i get stuck!
Cheers guys
Ben
PS... I have soooo many questions! Sorry for the influx of posts from me!!
Which winch?
Re: Which winch?
IMO its better to look out for a second hand (branded) winch if you dont want to spend much as they will out last any of the cheapo ones on ebay, they aren't very well made and let all the crap in from offroading. quite often they say that they are made in the same factory as the bigger brands, this might be true but the components inside them aren't the same! I picked up a britpart 9000lbs winch for £120 that had hardly been used!
ideally you need around 6000lbs for a zuke, you can get away with less but its best to over compensate IMO 12000lbs is way more than you will ever need though!

Re: Which winch?
I've had a good look on Ebay now and I'm afraid I am still drawn to these cheap winches! There are a few others on there second hand but can a worn out second hand one be and better than a brand new one with the same pulling power??
Check out this item number and tell me what you think! 310180828089... It even comes with a wireless remote!
Also look at this one... 290331126969, this is the £190 6000lbs winch.
Now I know a lot of you are going to try to convince me the branded winches are better and will last longer but please look at it from this point of view... I don't climb mountains, I have only had 2 occasions since i've had my anus where a winch would have been useful, thats in 3 months! The value for money here is very tempting and can it really be that bad?
I would probably go for the 6000lbs one after thinking about it mainly for power consumption reasons! Will that be strong enough to pull me out of the mud?
Which also leads me to my next question... Does anyone know how much these jeeps weigh??
Thanks guys!
Ben
