Yeah that's the starter. Try bump starting it see if it goes away.

Yeah, as above. Your starter is not disengaging properly after the engine starts.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Probably. It could be the return spring if it's got one.ferris wrote:Cheers guys. Do you recon its fixable if i strip it down and grease it up?

Try a strip an clean. May just be full of crud.
Failing that i've found a few of my local independant auto electrics places to be very reasonable on pice for repair / refurb of parts.
May be worth a look

Deffo starter motor. Strip it down and rebuild. The brushes are really fiddly I found rebuild the bushes around a bit of pipe and slide them down back in otherwise you will be there for ages!!

Re: Weird noise on start up
I think that is probably the drive gear spinning on the starter shaft...
the drive gear I believe is only supposed to spin around one way (so it can free wheel while disengaging, once the engine is started)
I would take the starter motor off and see if you can push the gear round both ways by hand/finger.
Otherwise I would have a spare starter ready in case! Mine was making that noise, and now it's dead!
