The HIF38 is a direct bolt-on to the manifold. The nuts are a little fiddly to get on but still pretty easy.
You'll need a cable holder thing to mount the casings of the throttle and choke cables to. Also, I had to replace my standard throttle cable with a bicycle brake cable and get a ram-scoop thingy for the intake hose from the airbox and a couple of UNC bolts to attach it to the carb. You may need to block a couple of outlets from the carb too. I did that by putting a short bit of hose on and then forcing a bolt into the other end of the hose.
If you've got all the bits to hand like I did you can get the carb on and the engine running in an hour or so.
The following was about 30 minutes in. Old carb off, SU bolted on and the fuel hose connected. No cables or anything. Got to love carbs.

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

HIF 44s were really common. Rover V8s, Minis, Metros, Midgets. There are tons on eBay.

And the hif 44 is the SU to use on the 1.3 engine, were talking about the 1.0 litre engine which has a side draft carb rather than down ( that's why it can be fitted with no adaptor)

Thanks guys, will keep an eye out for a 38 then, hopefully having the 413 bonnet will help with space for it..
