My friend bought a welder that just blew the ring main braker every time he tried to spark it up, I had to fit a new mcb to his consumer unit to allow it to work, I fitted a 32a c type mcb and ran some 6mm cpc2 SWA 3 core to his socket, it runs like a good in' now, the only issue I had was the socket was plastic so I couldn't earth the armourings at that end. It was a top job and probably the best wiring in his house!

Well I had a go today, but have thrown the towel in, and given up

I didn't fancy removing the earth in the CU as the switches are all metal clad with the earth connected to them

There are two circuits of lights, a set of 3 and a set of 2, both on two way switches. A switch at each end of the garage. I don't know why I did that as I only ever use the one by the door, and I turn them all on when I go in the garage. 8-)

It looks like I will have to wait until my son can untangle the mess on Monday.

Or just take everything out, fit new lights, and one switch.

So no suspension progress. :pissed:

Not sure my dads best mate is a sparky by trade and rewired the house when first moved in. at the wiring was shocking, it did the same when we put the 185 mig welder on it and turns out as you say it was the right size but just the wrong type it has some fancy breaker now.

so what was the problem in the end?
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

It's not properly sorted yet as my Samurai is in the way of a junction box. But my son has got one circuit of lights working, at the business end of the garage. Now I've turned it around he might be able to do some further checks.

I think he disconnected the earth to the circuit that I don't turn on at the moment, but not totally sure. I'm just glad I have some lights.

Good news. All sorted and fully lit up again.

I went into the garage on Sunday, and only two tubes lit up, so totally cheesed off, I went to B&Q and bought five new light fittings, and fitted them. Reconnected the wiring, and all seems fine.

So all I can presume happened is the plasma cutter damaged a flourescent light fitting internally which caused a short on the lighting circuit. All a bit of a mystery, but sorted now.

And for those of you with lots of cutting or plates to make for suspension mods, really give a plasma cutter some thought, or find a friend with one like I did. They are fantastic!
