Everytime it looked at a bank you had to change down at least one gear. The standard samurai drive train on 31s was painful on the road.

Once the rock lobster was in it was a million times better, not to mention the massive improvement in fuel consumption.
Was this with a 1.3, or with a 1.6?

My 1.3 is fun to drive on the road with standard sammy drive train and 1.3's, and I'm used to driving a very torquey diesel. I'm wondering if my carb is not just ruining my MOT with stupid high emissions, but also giving me the extra torque I need?

I know your driving style is probably very different to mine, but mine doesn't feel like pulling off in 3rd. It's not *quite* as good as it should be pulling off, but it's not that noticeable.

Having said that, I've never had to do a hill start in it, because I only drove it to the MOT centre, failed my MOT, then drove it back - a total of about 3 miles, and I only got to about 35mph in the thing!

Lets see how mine goes with the 16v in it!
Brute force and stupidity can often overcome science and gear ratios ;)
