adaptor plate or not?

I know this has been discussed before, and i know most will say use an adaptor, but im picking up my 1.6 8v on saturday, and i dont really have the funds for an adaptor plate anytime soon, so my question is more, is it safe to run a 1.6 without the adaptor plate? not whether i should or not, but whether i CAN or not?

I've done 4 without.

Twiss has done a few without them too.

Personally I actually think it is better without one. Others will say the opposite.

I prefer with myself, no point messing about when they are only £45 and no gaping holes are left around the bell housing.

As I just told you over FB... yeah I have done a few without and it works just as well...

But for ease of use in future I would just use an adapter.

When I first did it the adapter plates were something ridiculous like £70 + p&p!
That's why I didn't do it... now you can get them for like £30 its much more worth it

tbh If I ever do another 1.6 conversion on one of my own SJs I'll probably just use the vit gearbox again, that way you get a bigger flywheel and clutch

The Lwb is getting a vit gearbox with the J20a

Still have to drill out the gearbox holes with an adapter which is half of the faffing anyway.

Basically its up to you.

Okay, i will see what faffing is involved then, might end up taking the poor mans approach, or if anyone knows the dimensions of one i could make one up at my engineering thing on the oxyacetylene cutter?

My one has got one only because it was fitted when I did the engine swap into mine.

but if it didn't have one I would of still fitted one.
