So what's the deal with getting maximum droop and flex on the front?

Say these front missing-link shackles are going to give me 1" lift, and 5" droop, what shocks would I be looking at? All the ones I see on line seem to only offer travel for 2 / 3 inch lift.

Astra shocks have a pin on the top twiss they only have a ring on the top when you cut the pin off and weld one on like I did

Actually Astra Mk 3, 4 and 5 rear shocks are rings on both ends... thats what I've got on the back I think
Which Astra model do those come off? Guess its a mk1 or mk2 rear shocker, as the fronts are IFS type struts

Mk2 rears, they have 9.5" travel, not sure if the later ones do??

Binge it's best to get the Sj on the springs and missing links then flex it up to work out what length shocks you need, mk2 astras should be easily long enough and you can also get rough country shocks in loads of different lengths. Just ignore shocks that say +2 as they probably won't be suitable she it comes to custom suspension set ups.

Next job is to get the axles off, and get the truck rolled over onto it's side some how to underseal it again.

Gearbox and flywheel arrived today.
Also ordered a brand new clutch.

Will get started at the weekend.





Just a quick question. Will the gear stick assy from the 410 box fit the Sami box?
I only ask because the stick movement is really gritty and horrible on the Sami box, I think the ball/socket set up is worn.

Yes the stick and bushes will all swap over from your gearbox.

I guess you could order one from your suzuki stealer. but it's not really necesarry, it's only the flywheel cover. after all it has vents in the bottom anyway

Got up to my garage tonight and pulled the 1.3 engine apart.
Bit gutted, it appears it's completely f*cked. This is the third buggered engine I've had now, almost at the point of just towing this whole lot to the weighbridge at work and cutting my losses.

Took the rocker cover off, and most of the retaining screws for the rocker shafts were just floating around in the head. Exhaust rocker on cylinder 4 had slipped off the head of the valve, and onto the collet.

Took the head off, and quite pleasantly surprised that it all looked good on the head gasket.

BUT, after taking the sump off, I've found this:

What are peoples opinions on this?
Is this excessive for shells?

those screws are known to rattle out, no big deal really. did that rocker do any damage, or is it just misplaced?
that shell looks like it is severly worn, but a new set of big end bearings should sort this as long as there is no damage resulted from it. you might be surprised and be able to fix all of these problems with a complete rebuild, it fairly easy on these engines, and not too expensive either

Hopefully it's not smashed the crank to bits.
Will pull the pistons out tonight and inspect.
IF, it's a dead-un, then I've got 3 engines to scrap. haha!
