engine runs then stalls

Post by timwilks13 » Sun Mar 30, 2014 9:02 pm

Ok chaps ive been having this problem pretty much since i put the 1.6 in. Basically sometimes the car will run fine for a while, sometimes it wont start at all, and other times it will run then stall, then run then stall.

So far i have replaced both fuel filters and blown through all the fuel lines for blockages.
Running a low pressure facet pump that when the fuel feed is off the carb, it pumps plenty of fuel out.
Running the correct needle and spring.
Adjusted the needle correctly and fiddled till kindom come with it.
Timing is spot on because when its running it runs just fine.
Carb float has been removed, cleaned, and put back.
All plugs fire fine, coil is fine, dizzy is fine.

Everything points towards that it should be working fine. Have i missed anything basic that i should have checked?

......Battery?
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Battery has been serving me really well, when the engine is in its "don't start at all" mood the battery keeps the engine ticking over nicely.

Blocked fuel tank breather?

Something carb or ignition related if not, nothing blocked on the carb that shouldn't be and vice versa?

When it dies have you checked for a good spark?

Fuel tank breather clear, as far as I'm aware nothings blocked that shouldn't be and vice versa. I'll get it running tomorrow then check the plugs, just can't figure out why it's so temperamental. Went on a 20 mile round trip the other day no issues, today 12 miles then nothing!

Odd.

I had a small crack in my dizzy cap contact. Looked fine on quick inspection

It ran fine but would bog a splutter sometimes mainly in the damp
Then it wouldn't start one day.
Then it ran fine
Then I went to use it and it fired up perfect but died shortly after.

Swapped cap and arm. Spot on after that.

Have you tried another coil? I had one that would randomly cut out
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good
