Yep looks like you have fixed the problem. My 2004 GV doesn't have a red led. My 2002 Gv convertible does but that has a selca aftermarket unit which now doesn't work, that unfortunately is a another story

If i were to do the following would it have any impact with setting the alarm off or is the current to low the alarm will be ok.
Purchase a red flashing led.
Wire up one wire to a constand live.
Wire up the other wire to a switched ignition live.
This should then flash when i remove the keys from the ignition.
When the keys are in the ignition it will not flash.
Just working on the principle that the switched live will go to earth when not in use thus making the the led flash.

I have done this and it works perfect.
With Keys in ignition/driving = no flashing led
Remove keys from ignition = flashing led

Does not affect alarm at all regarding voltage drop etc.

What alarm has been fitted anyway as most have a LED as standard?

Standard i assume.
2 button key remote where lights flash when buttons pressed.
No led flashing so i installed this to operate with keys out of ignition only.

As the car has an immobiliser built in can you advise an alarm which i could install to just cover windows & doors etc ?

I never bothered fitting one to the GV. There's nowt worth nicking in mine, the stereo is pretty crap and I just have a few cheap tools in the back, just in case.
So many alarms go off for no apparent reason it's put me off fitting one.
I just trust the immobilizer will mean it's still where I left it.
