I'm sure this has been covered, did have a search but I have a fiarly basic question please. Just got this 413 a few days ago and generally promising but cold start is v bad. I assume the carb is stock/original - it's this one:
Seeing as almost every owner must have been down this road, what should I do. I'd quite like a quick fix at least to get the cold start working reasonably, but then a bigger improvement later, hence the Weber question (or fuel injection).
The air hose from manifold to airbox is off (was in back of car) and looks v tired. I best replace that for winter I guess.
This is how it looks at the moment and I'm happy to start a series of fixes/improvements as I reckon the basics are all pretty good:
Any advice re carb issues and solutions very welcome please
douglas
Basic question is - do I get inside and check autochoke mechanism. Or do I order a rebuild kit, then get inside and rebuild at the same time... or do I go get a Weber conversion (and is that really a simple switch-over). Or do I see if EFi is an option and can I find the bits.'91 SJ413 carb advice please

Weber or SU.
I run a weber on one of mine, literally a 20min job to fit. My others run an SU on a modded manifold (that's a 1.6).
The other is running a Daihatsu carb, straight swap, 20min.
First thing I do is bin the standard carb.

Definitely bin the standard carb and get a replacement as Jordi says!
Weber and SU are both good options! Weber is dead easy to fit as above, bit I find they are a bit more juicy and can stall going up steep hills (or down steep hills if you turn the carb round)
I would say if you are prepared to spend a bit of money on a carb, the SU is the way to go.
Think modified manifolds (the only way to go) are about £150 and you can get a decent SU for £50 or less on ebay
If I bought another SJ (and kept it petrol) first mod I would do is SU carb!

Hi Andy - sorry but not allowed to receive pms either! Need to get to a magic 20 posts I think.
Will be interested to see what you have anyway and in no big rush. Got hold of a cheap SU with adapter (on its way) to try but that doesn't rule out a Weber. I think the engine is clean and strong but drivetrain noises are more than just a whiny gearbox so I think I need to start there then head off towards trim and cosmetics later.
Thanks for attempted help.
p.s. try this 07734 103709
