Clutch release humming

Post by AshR1 » Sat Oct 11, 2014 5:05 pm

Just took dog for a walk sj was fine driving up there no unusual noises ect. finish the walk and go to set off and i can hear a very slight humming coming from under the gear stick area, when i engage the clutch it stops, release it and it starts again, whilst i was driving it wasnt making the noise that im aware but when i stop and release the clutch (park up) it starts again, like i say only a very faint humming noise but it wasnt happening when i left. anybody have any clue what this could be at all? or reckon its nothing to worry about??

Sounds like the thrust bearing to me.
They aren't massively difficult to change and it can be done with basic tools.
You have to undo the gearbox, slide it back and you can gain access to the bearing

Be careful though as if you ignore it till it gets too loud you may well find that it was the fly wheel dancing around the bell housing the whole time.....

No they all have different problems!!!
Last time my thrust bearing went it didn't take long to go from humming to screaming!!!
It's possibly the least pleasant noise my truck as ever made!
