Elec Fans size comparison
Need to replace my leccy fan that just fried and wanted opinions regarding cooling ability. Pasted below are specs for ebay fans, I appreciate 2 fans have a possible "safety by duplication" but want thoughts on cooling ability please:-
FAN SPECIFICATIONS
Size Voltage Power Ampere(A) RPM Thickness Speed/minute(ft/min) CFM
10" 12V 80W 5.5 2250 63mm 1600 850
12" 12V 80W 7.5 2000 63.5mm 1810 1400
14" 12V 80W 10.5 2100 74.5mm 1830 1900
16" 12V 160W 13.5 2050 76mm 1850 2500
My question is:-
On a vit rad approx 20 inches wide, are you better to use the 2 10" fans CFM 850 x2 or the
14" fan 1900 CFM ??

Re: Elec Fans size comparison
The first three can't all be 80W - actually my calculations say none of them are 80W. Don't you have scrap yards over there? I would get one from a similar sized/power vehicle.

yes scrapyards are here, all manned by graduates of Halfrauds - they normally want stoopid money. I read that a Rover 400 fan does a good job but no Rovers so I think I am right in saying that the Honda equiv is a Civic and we do have them.

Re: Elec Fans size comparison
Just a thought, but if you want to be sure of good airflow, would the leccy fan off a diesel engine (Peugeot 1.9 TDI comes to mind) not be likely to be a powerful fan?
Diesel engines produce more heat, don't they?

Re: Elec Fans size comparison
I have had 2x 14" fans... one was a cheap one, one was a better one... which I'm still using
fits perfectly on a 1.3 radiator
My mate bought the 12" version of the same fan and it fits perfectly on a 410 radiator
I did have to trim down the water pump pulley studs though

Re: Elec Fans size comparison
I stop!
There's loads of clearance now, the studs are really long to accommodate the viscous fan mount
