converting to injection help please.
Re: converting to injection help please.
Thanks mate, I'm looking into every option and like you say carburettor would definitely be a million times easier. It depends on what is easiest for me to get a hold of really. I do like the idea of single point injection.

Re: converting to injection help please.
The ECU will meter the amount of fuel sprayed into the throttle body depending on throttle position, coolant temperature, and inlet air temperate... bit more complicated than just being connected to the throttle cable!
I don't doubt that the injection is the best option, every (properly working) injection Samurai ive been in is noticeably better than the carburettor versions, but an SU will probably work better than 90% of the standard sammy carbs out there
I will eventually be changing my 16v back to injection but will probably be using an after-market ECU to control fuelling and ignition

The FI will be more reliable than a carb long term. If you want to know how it works then download the FSM and read through the FI section

Re: converting to injection help please.
Ok that does make sense to me now. Hopefully I have enough information to make an educated decision.

I should add that I added "properly working" mostly because I've known of a few that have been bodged a bit as Injection Samurai parts are quite hard to get hold of nowadays...Rhinoman wrote:The FI will be more reliable than a carb long term.
I had enough trouble finding a Samurai Sport tank for mine, never mind an injection one!
I was thinking about having a two fuel pump and swirl pot setup so I can keep the standard tank
It will also let me convert the entire high pressure part of the fuel system with AN connectors and braided hoses

Maby I will fit injection at a later date but I've managed to sort out a carb for now.

Re: converting to injection help please.
I'm pretty sure that the Jimny boys fit SPI G16 engines and use the 1.3 ECU, harness, injectors etc.
If you resurrect the idea of going EFI, maybe you could get the parts you need from a Vitara or a Jimny?

That's a good idea mate, I'm definitely going to look into it as a future project.
Re: converting to injection help please.
No they use the G16B MPFI 16V engine in the G13BB models because, other than the capacity, the G13BB isn't much different. The stock 1.3 Jimny ECU does work with that conversion but its not ideal as the mapping is all wrong.Anton wrote:I'm pretty sure that the Jimny boys fit SPI G16 engines and use the 1.3 ECU, harness, injectors etc.

Re: converting to injection help please.
Probably better to grab Vitara wiring harness, ecu etc then.
