Post by sjman413 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 2:39 pm

Hi my sj ran a bit sluggish when I bought it then the clutch started slipping so I put in a new clutch it is a 410 1 litre it drives ok in 4 low soon as u put it in 2wd it is hard pulling away will wheels pin a little but too much pressure and the wheels will not spin at all it is if the clutch is spinning again ??? It has oversized wheels on it could it be because of that or is it gearbox or transfer box???? Thanks in advance

Sounds like maybe the clutch cable is too tight?

If you drive up the road, up a bit of a hill, try accelerating (I know it's a 410, so that will be difficult) hard in 3rd gear. This is the sort of situation when the clutch will slip if there is a problem with it. You may also be able to smell it if it's bad.

Could it be cause I didn't put a new pressure plate in because it does that u can smell it or could it be that the gear box is the wrong one??

It certainly sounds like the clutch is at fault.

I'd buy a full three pice kit and put all new in. You could keep the friction plate as an emergency spare.
