That picture...!! Thats it...haha...

As daft as it sounds I have had my wife turning the wheel a bit whilst I have had my hand under the ball joint and the creak "feels" as if it comes from there.....

Granted.... the dust cover hasnt come off so I shall have a peruse round tomorrow.

Thankyou!

ok.. how bizarre is this...

with all the wet weather we have had, the creaking when we steer has stopped... there is now simply a creak when we go over speed humps and the slightest creek on the steering... Not had chance to do the wd40 squirt yet...

Hi,
Had the same problem recently on our GV V6 2.5. It will be the ball joints gone dry as someone else said. It doesn't mean they're worn and need changing though as our GV passed it's MOT 2 days before we bought it and we've only had it 2 weeks already. The squeaking/screeching started the next day. Took it to my local garage where I've MOT'd my cars for the past 5 years and they did a "quick" MOT inspection and confirmed that a) the MOT is a good one and she's looking good underneath including the chassis, (Phew!!) and b) it is the balljoints screeching but they're not worn and look fine. He said just drive it for a while and eventually they *may* stop making the noise.

I decided that it didn't look like that was going to happen and to be honest, it was only happening when turning lock to lock at low speed, but while driving in and around town it was MEGA embarrassing and everyone would stare or turn around and look

I looked online for the answer and it took a lot of looking. I wouldn't recommend using WD40 as it's water based oil/light spray and will dry out/evaporate after a short time and you will be back with the screeching.

The best way I found was this. Get hold of a 50ml Syringe and a big needle to fit on the end. Obviously be very careful as they are extremley sharp! Fill the Syringe up with ordinary engine oil, (Grease best but too thick). Jab the needle into the rubber boot on the ball joint and press the syringe and fill it with oil until it's more or less running back out. (You may have to fiddle with the syringe's plunger as they are a bugger to press if air locked etc :er: . Repeat the performance on the opposite ball joint rubber boot. JOB DONE! It now locks from left to right and back and is smooth and quiet. It may take a few locks back and fore for the oil to lube in fully. 2 weeks on since doing ours and it's smooth as silk ;) . Hope that helps you or anyone else with this annoying problem .

Regards,

Andy :D

In wet weather my ride gets softer. It's not weird at all - higher levels of humidity means that moisture gets between the parts and temporarily lubricates them, as with my leaf springs.

It's why bolts rust to bodywork - the mositure can seep in an atom at a time. This is a bad thing as it can mean your balljoint could rust up. Get WD40 on it as it repels water, until you can grease it up properly.

A trick the 'mericans use is to mix a little oil with nail polish remover (acetone). They won't want to mix, so you have to put them in a spray bottle and shake vigourously to form an emulsion, then spray it on whatever you want lubricated. Acetone has a tendency to use capillary action to force its way between things (even the head of a bolt and the metal surface it is tightened against) and it'll "drag" the oil with it. It then evaporates and just leaves a very nicely lubricated surface.

Wheel bearings maybe? If finances allow change the lot, but I reckon along with everyone else it's the ball joint.

And yes this is the best Suzuki forum ever, and welcome!
